Experience living in an earth-sheltered house in the midst of a haven for nature. Enjoy living closer to the land and the seasons beneath a gently curved earthen roof. Watch dawn rising over the nearby woodland, sit by an open fire as dusk bird chorus begins or step out at night to see the canopy of stars overhead. Inside, the rooms are spacious and light, with an open plan kitchen and dining room, and a comfortable cosy lounge.

The space

The generous glass on the east facing facade allows the sun to warm the house. The earthen roof keeps this warmth in winter and cools the house in the summer. The house is a rated and has a feeling of tranquility throughout.

From your door, you can walk out onto meadows where nature is returning in abundance. Sit in your private and secluded hot tub watching the stars and wildlife spotting.

Nectar rich wild flowers for butterflies, briars for song birds, areas of long grass for voles and up overhead the high-flying buzzards. From here, explore the woodland walk that leads past ancient oaks towards the meandering river Ken.

If you are lucky, catch a glimpse of a kingfisher, or dwell in the deep peace of the woodland clearings.

We can guide you to local markets and organic food suppliers to cook your own food inside or over the open fire.

The neighbourhood

Wildlands is our family-run, Eco-accommodation and Wildlife Haven in the heart of Suffolk. Bordered by the Rivers Kent and Deben, the site is a unique mosaic of meadows, woods, and wetland habitats. Just as the Wildlands thrives in quieter waterways, so we invite you to be restored by the rare tranquility of our river-edged land. Matthew, Claire, Ralph and George (the dog)

An ecological philosophy guides our family-run enterprise. At the highest point in the land, we offer a wide range of places for people to stay in amongst fields that are transforming, year-by-year, as insects, wildflowers and animal life return to the land. On the productive fields of our land, we are introducing regenerative approaches, such as woodland grazing and organic horticulture. Alongside, 40 acres is cared for as a Wildlife Haven. Here, we invest income from visiting guests into the care of diverse habitats, including special areas for endangered species. Weaving across the site are woodland walks, spaces for adventurous play and our places to experience our seasonal program of local food and art events.

There is a lovely pub in walking distance The Cretingham Bell and lots of things to do in our immediate area such as visiting the stomping ground of Framlingham, home to the Castle on the Hill as described by Ed Sheeran. We are 25 minutes from the Coastal towns of Aldeburgh and the picturesque town of Woodbridge.
